What Makes this Post Unique
This Post is no different from any other Legion Post in the Nation. We are all veterans who served our country during different eras. We still take the time to help our fellow veterans and our community. The Post has been in existence since 1919. The Post operated without a Charter for about 12 years. In March of 1931 they received a temporary Charter and then on March 16, 1933 they received there permanent Charter. When the Post first began they held there meeting at the Village Hall in Stapleton. In 1939 they moved into there own Post Head Quarters in Oakwood. Our Post has about 200 members and we also have a Son’s of the American Legion Squadron. Every year we sponsor a youth from the local High School in our area for Boy’s State and this year we also sponsored a girl for Girl’s Nation. For the last two years we held yard sales and all the money raised went to a worthy cause. One of our members is currently the County Commander and another is a County Vice-Commander. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy our Post was open every day to people affected by the storm to come in for coffee or just to warm up and charge there cell phones. Our Post is located at 2750 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10306. Phone No. (718) 351-9233. Our Post meets on the third Monday of every month at 7:30 pm. The Richmond County Ladies Auxiliary also meets at our Post on the third Thursday of every month. The Post email address is Post_316@yahoo.com and our website is http://www.alegion316.org where information about our Post is always available and just recently our history page has been added and each day more information is added.
