American Legion Post 390, Denville, NJ. The beginning.

It started in a second floor office overlooking Main St. The application for a charter was approved August 4, 1946. The first commander was Walter G. Peterman.

A tentatively named Denville Memorial American Legion Post was organized at Ferguson's Milk Bar, Denville, Monday, March 18, 1946. The open charter listed 25 members. Temporary officers are Harry A. Doll, commander; Harry A. Doll Jr., Adjutant; A. Norman Mohr, Finance Officer.

Legion Units Named

Committees of the Denville Memorial Post, American Legion, were named by Harry A. Doll, commandeer, at the first regular meeting of the Post held Tuesday, March 21. The committees include Athletics, Entertainment, Constitution and By-Laws, and Housing.

Newly Elected Officers

May 16, 1946
Newly elected officers of Denville Memorial Post 390, American Legion will be installed by county officers on June 11 at Denville School. The initiation team will also induct about 60 new members. The temporary charter will be presented. All the new officers but one are veterans of World War 2. Walter G. Perlman Jr. will succeed Harry A. Doll as post commander.

Ladies' Auxiliary Elects Officers

Newly elected officers of the Ladies Auxiliary, Denville Memorial Post, American Legion were installed by county officials in ceremonies at Ferguson's Milk Bar. Officers installed are: Miss Claire Wiedman, president; Mrs. Elmer Scaichard, first vice-president; Mrs. David Cook, second vice-president; Miss Elsie Grossan, secretary; Mrs. Ernest Herland, treasurer; Mrs. Ernest Scofield, chaplain.

Post 390 receives its charter

Denville Memorial Post 390, American Legion held its first post initiation of officers Tuesday, June 16, when it formerly received its charter. The Ladies Auxiliary of Denville Memorial Post 390, will hold a special meeting Monday, June 22, when the newly elected officers will be installed by a delegation of officers of the County Legion Auxiliary. Claire Wiedman becomes temporary president.

Post Holds Open House

Aug 6, 1946
Denville Memorial Post 390 held an open house for all veterans of World War II at its business meeting in the auditorium of the Denville Community Church. Richard Baldo, service officer, was present to advise veterans on any problems confronting them. The Post has voted to continue holding its meetings in the church hall because of its convenient location and large capacity. Meetings will be held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

The American Legion team won the championship of the Denville Recreation Commission Softball League at Imperial Field, September 8 when they defeated the Indian lakes team, 10-0.

Post to build new home

Denville Memorial Post 390, American Legion announced plans have been completed to construct a new Legion homeand playground. The building will be located on Wallace Avenue in Denville.

Post receives 57-mm gun

Feb 13, 1954

A 57-mm gun was delivered to Post 390. The present from the government cost $50 for freight and de-militarization. It sits at the front of the Legion building.

Legion Post to Sponsor Additional Scout Troop

Mar 11, 1954

Denville Memorial Post 390, American Legion, will sponsor a new Boy Scout troop to be orgnized Monday evening, March 15 at the Post home. The extension in organization committee of Morris-Sussex, B.S.A., will be present to assist. All men interested in serving on this troop committee or in organiing additional troops are invited to attend.

p. 6 - The organizatioal meeting of the troop committee for the new Boy Scout troop to be sponsored by Denville Memorial Post 390 of the American Legion was held Monday, March 29 at the home of temporary chairman, K.R. Thompson. George MacLen was named chairman. Frank Vrabel, named secretary, Bernard Stoecker was named treasurer and assistant scout master.

It was announced this week by outgoing Commander K.R. Thompson that installation of new officers of Denville Memorial Post 390 and Auxiliary Unit 390, the American Legion, will be held for the first time in the new Legion home next Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
