Missouri American Legion Post 189 is named after Robert L . Clore USMC. Robert attended Wentworth Academy in Missouri.

Notable Members

William R McKee was a Past Commander and three time Mayor of Lee's Summit,Mo. John Gately ,50 years in the Legion, is one of our more active WWII Veterans. Roy Nelson has lead the Honor Guard for many years. Roy has set a high standard for all to follow.

What Makes this Post Unique

Our Post was chartered Nov., 8, 1919.  We will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary this November.  Our Charter was issued from the American Legions temporary H.Q. in New York City. 


We of Post 189's Honor Guard have shared an honored tradition for many years. In a years time, we assist in over 100 Funeral Ceremonies. The opportunity to join is offered to all Post members willing, and able to serve. Sometimes weather conditions require that changes be made, but we strive to insure we are the only ones knowledgeable of any changes. We also strive to insure the family is satisfied with our efforts to honor their loved one. The tears, smiles, and parting hugs from family members provide the only fuel we need to continue. The duties of our Honor Guard, Rifle Squads, and Flag Bearers include but are not limited to the following. We provide military rites for deceased honorably discharged Veterans. We participate in local parades with walking teams, and floats. We Present programs on Americanism, flag day, and other patriotic ceremonies for grade schools, high schools, scouts, and others as requested. We also participate in Veterans Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Flag Day , Memorial Day ceremonies, Flag Retirement ceremonies, and others.

Our Post named in honor of R.L. Clore June 29, 1918 Corporal Robert L. Clore USMC was listed with the Marines that lost their lives at Chateau Theirry in France. The Battle of Château-Thierry was fought on July 18, 1918 and was one of the first actions of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) under General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing.
