Entered service May 26, 1918 at Austin, Minnesota.  Assigned to Company M, 308 Regiment, 77th Division.  Trained at Camp Lewis and Camp Kearney.  Embarked from Brooklyn Navy Yards, August 9, 1918, and arrived at Birkenhead, England, August 21.  Went into active service in September, in the Argonne.  Wounded October 14, 1918.  Under medical care three weeks at Base Hospital No. 27, Angers, Maine-et-Loire, France where he died of wounds.
