1st Lieut. George S. Shepard.  1st Lieutenant Shepard was the first casualty from Easton during WW1.  Lt. Shepard was killed on May 4, 1918,  in Villers-Tounelle, France.   According to the Mayor of this French town where Lt. Shepard was taken after he was shot, his body was placed in a chapel in their town, where he died lying on a pew.  The Mayor of the town sent Shepard's mother a piece of the pew, where it was made into the gavel that was used to open the Post's meetings.
