May of 1987: Exact Date Unknown / Limestone American Legion Post 979 sets its sights on Joyce Hill for the location of a new post. The new location is up the bluff from the Illinois River west of the village of Bartonville. It is on Airport Road near Limestone High School.

First Hog Roast

Aug 1989: Exact Date Unknown / Post 979 hold its first Hog Roast on the Post's newly purchased farmland. A great tent was put up and a good time was had by all. There were prizes donated by local stores, restaurants, barber shops, beauty shops, etc...

This was the first year of the Sons of the American Legion for Post 979. It was very productive with 38 members accounted for. They strutted their stuff in the Bartonville Memorial Day Parade.
