Local veterans and members of The American Legion began meeting in October 2014 to organize a new post in Lakeland Georgia.
District Commander Robert Carpenter met with the organizers and advised them of the procedure to charter a new post. Once the required number of members was reached. The members filed an application for charter.Naming the new Post Milltown Post No 336, in honor of the former name of Lakeland Georgia.

Milltown Post 336, The American Legion was Chartered officially on January 24th 2015
Even before the Post received their Permanent Charter they were working with the community as active members of the Annual Christmas Parade with a patriotic float and marchers.
The Post works with the Chamber of Commerce at the Annual Milltown Motorcade by cooking and serving over 300 hotdogs and water to the motorcade participants and the public at no char
The Post is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and supports all of their projects to include the motorcade mentioned above, the annual Youth Fishing Derby and the annual Christmas parade and lighting of the County Christmas tree.
The Post helped organize the first Memorial Day Parade in Lakeland and observes Memorial Day at the Cemeteries by placing over 300 flags on the graves of the veterans, Setting up a “field of Honor” annually at Roquemore Park with over 200 Crosses with the Names of the Lanier county Veterans who have died, to include those who served in The War between the Sates.
Post 336 held a Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony to honor 45 Vietnam veterans from the Lanier County Area. In attendance were representatives from The National American Legion, Department of Georgia, The Georgia Department of Veteran Services, State Representatives, City and County Officials and many of the local Posts. All in all about 250 attendees.
Vietnam Veterans received the Georgia Honor Certificate, Vietnam Veteran pin, and an Honor Certificate from the Post, widows received the Commemorative community Spouse certificate and pin and Georgia Honor Certificate posthumously
Members of Post and Unit 336 are volunteers in the Lanier County EMA, and CERT programs to assist the community in times of emergency or natural Disaster
