What Makes this Post Unique

Post 335 does not currently have a Post home. We meet at the Margaret Jones Public Library located at 205 E. Pope Street in Sylvester, Georgia. Our meeting time is 6:30 PM with a social gathering running from 6 to 6:30. Our Post was chartered on the 1st day of July 2014. We started life as the "Biggest Little Post in the Department of Georgia!" Although we have grown from 25 members to over 180 members this year, we still see ourselves as, The Biggest Little Post in the Department of Georgia!"Since the inception of our Charter we have become an integral part of our Community! Some of our community activities include:

We place 450 American flags along a one mile stretch of HWY 82 running through Sylvester on patriotic holidays. We also place flags along the HWY in Poulan, Ga. and at the Daughters of the American Revolution building.

Our Post host a bi-monthly blood drives that have collected 100s of pints of blood for the American Red Cross each year.

We host a monthly Veterans breakfast that is free to all Veterans and their Spouse. This breakfast is an opportunity for Veterans to come together for good food and good fellowship. It helps us locate potential new members and hear the concerns of Veterans in our area.

An annual Emergency Responders Appreciation Dinner. This dinner serves our police, fire fighters and emergency medical responders with a much-deserved meal! At this meal we donate hundreds of Teddy Bears, "Operation Teddy and the Bears", to the First Responders to give to tramatized children when they arrive on their dispatched location!

An annual dinner where honoring all Purple Heart recipients on August 7, Purple Heart Day. We have people travel from as far as Florida to attend this meal.

On Super Bowl week-end we host a three-day annual quail hunt for our wounded heroes retuning form down the War on Terror.

We sponsor contestants in the Legion Oratorical Contest.

We sponsor deserving young men to the Boy’s State program.

We sponsor a fresh water and salt water fishing trip during the year for Purple Heart Recipients

We co-sponsor a Field of Flags during the week of Patriots Day in remembrance of those lost during the 9/11/02 attack on the Twin Towers. More than 1000 flags are erected at the Albany Mall and remain in place for the week.

We collect, clean and redistribute good used medical equipment to Veterans and the family members of Veterans in our area. These items include: wheel chairs, hospital beds, walkers, shower chairs and bed side toilets.

We continue to co-host, with the American Rifle Association, fundraisers to assist with youth shooting sports in our area. These activities raise thousands of dollars each year.

We distribute food and toys to needy families during the holidays. We also work with local groups to distribute food to the needy on a quarterly basis. Hunger does not know seasons!

We provide military Honors and motorcycle escorts at the funerals of our fallen Veterans. Traveling through South Central Georgia, We have completed almost 100 this physical year!

We have an annual Memorial Day & Veteran’s Day service at the Sylvester train Depot. This includes a display of 70 crosses for the local heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation since the beginning of WWI. We have a reading of the names of these fallen heroes and allow a family member or friend to toll the post bell in their honor. The service is completed with a 21-gun salute, taps and a cannon salute to signal the release of 100’s of black balloons.

We support our local JROTC and provide achievement awards at the end of the school year.

We host our annual Red Ride in October to raise money for packages for deployed troops! Through our ride and shirt sales we raise the money to ship over 100 packages for the Holiday Season. "As long As Our Brothers Blood Is Shed We Will Wear Red!"

We make a visit to the Carl Vinson VA Hospital every 3rd Sunday of the month to play Bingo with our Brothers there! We pay out in $2 bills and everyone gets a chance to win before we go to our Black Out Game. We pass out Snack Bags for them to enjoy during the following days!
