The post is the first American Legion post established inside a state prison in Florida. In the beginning all its members were prison inmates. All of the current members are inmates or former inmates. Today the post has a twenty or more members who have now returned to society yet remain members of Indiantown Post 398. These released members continue to assist the post through volunteer work and fund raising for the post on the outside. The post adjutant and finance officer is on the outside.
