What Makes this Post Unique
Hanniton Watts Post 193 had its beginning in Pensacola, FL in the early months of 1946. Its organizers consisted of Dr. Eli Sanford Cobb and fourteen other veterans who lived in the community and had served in the World Wars. Dr. Cobb, a general practitioner and surgeon served this community for a total span of about forty-nine years. He served in the Army as a medical officer in France at the time the American Legion was born. It was through his guidance that Hanniton Watts came to be. A constitution was established and the name "Hanniton Watts" was adopted. Hanniton Watts, born in Mobile AL. on the 29th day of December 1919, he died in action defending his country. He was killed in action on May 24, 1944. His name was chosen because he was noted as the first serviceman in the local area to make the ultimate sacrifice while serving during WWII. Upon application and approval by the American Legion Department, State of Florida, Post 193 received its temporary charter on July 22, 1946. On June 21, 1962, Post 193 received its permanent charter. In earlier years members met at each others homes, in 1971 the first Post Home was purchased and opened in 1982 we moved to current location.
