What Makes this Post Unique
Post 152 has a vibrant and engaged membership, which along with our active Auxiliary unit and SAL squadron contributes to our local community through the numerous programs of the American Legion, such as Boys and Girls State, we also support an active Boy Scout Troop. We actively support the West Central FL Honor flight program which allows WW2 and Korean War veterans the experience of travelling to Washington DC to visit the memorials which commemorate their service and sacrifices. Our Post supports JROTC programs at three different High Schools and citizenship programs at five K-5 schools in our area. Led by our Service Officer, our Post is actively engaged in providing assistance and benefit guidance to the numerous veterans and their families in our area that need it. Programs such as; Operation Helping Hand, Project Gratitude, Liberty Manor, Paws for Patriots, and Stand down for homeless Veterans. We support 7 VA Clinics, 8 VA Medical Centers and 6 VA Nursing Homes. Our efforts to support our local and national community organizations and promote Legion values include supporting: Faces of Courage, the National Child Welfare Foundation, St. Francis House, Alpha House, Hope Children’s Home, Ronald McDonald House, Fisher House, Angels Unaware, the Special Olympics and 4 local Children’s Hospitals. Creative Arts Program – fund supplies for VA hospital for Recreational therapy used to bring veterans back into the main stream or life. Purchase Spinoza bears/Josh Puppies - to donate to sick children. Sick children will not tell an adult all of their problems because they blame themselves. These bears have a recorder, the children can play the recorder and the bear talks to them or it records what the child tells it. The doctors can listen to the recordings and learn a lot that the child will not tell him. The puppies are soft and cuddly and give the child a new friend while they are in the hospital. During Thanksgiving the Post hosts a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for veterans, their families and other members of the community. During the Christmas holidays, the Post, in conjunction with our Auxiliary membership and SAL squadron, reach out to those in need and distribute to over 150 families.
