Sippin-Winspur Post 176 Monroe, Connecticut was named after 2 WWII heroes. 1.)Victor Sippin - The third child of Bessie and Irving Sippin of Monroe, CT, enlisted in the Navy in 1943, went to basic training at Newport, R.I., became a PT Boat machinist mate, and was assigned to RON 29 PT 555. While on assignment off the coast of Marseilles France on August 24, 1944 his PT Boat struck a mine killing Victor and four of his crewmates. His commander was Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. 2.)David Winspur- Son of Alfred and Ellen Winspur, of Monroe, CT, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 and went to basic training at Parris Island S.C. After the initial invasion of Iwo Jima, he was killed by a sniper during a mop up operation on the island on March 13, 1945.
