About This Post

What Makes this Post Unique

Post 221 was chartered on August 1st, 1920. Since our charter, our American Legion Post has been welcoming veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces.  Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country.  Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends, and families embodied in our preamble.

On June 27, 1932, Unit 221 of the American Legion Auxiliary was chartered.  Our Auxiliary members are always anxious and willing to support Post 221 and the Tehachapi community.

On June 22, 2017, Chapter 221 of the American Legion Riders was chartered.  Our riders are a very dedicated group of Legion Family members, who participate in local and national charity events.  Riders provide escorts that honors and protects the sanctity of military funerals and memorial services.

On May 6, 2017, Squadron 221 of the Sons of The American Legion was chartered.  The Sons are the final piece to completing our American Legion Family.  The Squadron helps expand the post's representation and also develops an awareness of the squadron's purpose "to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism."

American Legion Post 221 sponsors various scholarships for the further education of our youth.  We also sponsor and financially assist many worthy community projects and programs.  American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students.  Each year, high school juniors are selected to attend the program.  The Post sponsors four young men, with the Auxiliary sponsoring one young girl.

Our Post supports multiple veteran and community activities.  The annual Tehachapi Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies are organized and presented by the Post, along with community volunteers.  Post 221 supports the "Warrior Hikers" from Warrior Expeditions, during their layover in Tehachapi while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).  Each year, Warrior Expeditions' select six combat veterans for this special program, assisting them with integrating back into society by "walking off the war".  Our Post sponsors the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) O'Callahan Division/Training Ship Franklin, as well as Boy Scout Troop 3.
