The Boy and Girl Scouts of Mattoon were so excited in joining the American Legion in the Memorial Parade. They built a float praising the Veteran and threw candy to the people in the crowd. Post #287 gave each Boy Scout, plus the Girl Scouts, flag pins to wear for taking part in the festivities. They marched the full length of the parade with such pride and excitement. After the Parade, both Girl and Boy Scouts were surprised when they were placed in front of the line for the picnic gathering. When asked how it was to be in the parade, it was big smiles that made them glow as their answer. One little guy kept telling us about how his Grandpa served in the Korean War and he felt like he was part of all the ceremonies. The Girl Scouts took First Place for their Float and the Boy Scout took Second Place.
