Post 61 was established on 27 February 2010, Incorporated on 11 August 2010 and Chartered on 25 December 2010. Founders Joe Johnson and Ron Diener envisioned a fellowship of Veterans who wanted to make a difference by serving the Legion’s Pillars; Americanism, Mentoring Youth, Fostering a Strong National Security, Taking Care of Veterans and Community Service while Promoting Patriotism and Honor. On this day Post 61 had the honor of attending the dedication of a portrait of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Marshall Scott Jamar. He is the soldier for whom the post is named. Post Commander Clements was the master of ceremonies for the event. Chaplain Rey Smith gave the opening invocation and afterwards led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Marshall Scott Jamar Post 61 has had the honor of hosting the Wreaths Across America ceremony for the past several years at the Taylor County Veterans Cemetery. This year had a huge crowd with enough Wreaths for every gravestone. The Honorable Susan King, Texas District 71 Representative, was the guest speaker.

Flag Day-Flag Disposal Ceremony & Officer Initiation Ceremony

A few years ago, one of the local Boy Scout troops built a flag disposal burn pit at the Taylor County Veterans Cemetery. Our post has the honor of providing the flag disposal service several times a year. During the 2017 Flag Day ceremony, the West Texas winds proved too strong to light a fire but the team performed the ceremony in front of a few spectators.
