“TEXANS LEAD THE WAY” Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240 Guest Speaker presents “Tarleton State University Army ROTC Program Overview” Tarleton State University Professor of Military Science, LTC Marty Deckard, was present and introduced guest speaker for the evening, ROTC Cadet, Ty Madison. Cadet Madison’s outstanding power point slide presentation, titled “Tarleton State University Army ROTC Program Overview”, exhibited the leadership and professional quality traits that have become synonymous with the TSU ROTC cadets. With the theme, “TEXANS LEAD THE WAY”, Cadet Madison began his presentation by defining exactly what ROTC is and what it is not. Listeners learned that the ROTC was established by the National Defense Act of 1916 and is the largest officer-producing program in the nation. Cadet Madison continued to explain that participation in ROTC is voluntary and includes a number of military science courses associated with it which teach skills valuable in both civilian and military careers. ROTC is not Basic Training and it is Not a Military School. Located on 1100 campuses nationwide, current year opening enrollment reports 29114 Cadets; 14234 Cadets on scholarship and 314000 Cadets in the Army ROTC program.Army ROTC commissions over 70% of the new officers each year. Cadet Madison continued his presentation with an overview of the National organization of the Army ROTC program and available financial assistance programs. He concluded his remarks by stating The TSU ROTC program is committed to Excellence and is the best leadership course one can take while in college.
