The “Voices of Service: A Tribute to Veterans” honored the service and sacrifice of local veterans with a community celebration featuring music, remembrances, and recognition from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Tarleton State University’s Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. The tribute was a collaboration by the university’s Lozano Long Division of Global, Community and First-gen Initiatives, the College of Education and Voices of Service: Erath County Veterans Legacy Project, a Humanities Texas-funded initiative led by Tarleton State and featured performances by the Tarleton State choir and symphonic band as well the Henderson Junior High School choir. Student narrators shared excerpts from veteran oral histories collected through the Voices of Service project. Col. Douglas Simon, Dean of Tarleton State’s College of Leadership and Military Studies, and state Sen. Brian Birdwell (District 22) were guest speakers.
To my Post 240 comrades, in the group photo taken at the event, I count seven Legionnaires … can you find them? My count is subject to scrutiny as my aging eyes occasionally fail to focus. JJ & RC are easily spotted wearing their Legion caps. The Legion Cap is our National Uniform. Wear it proudly! -Post 240 Historian
