DEATH CLAIMS FIRST WAGNER SOLDIER BOY *************************** Elmer Roy Greer Succumbs at Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas after Short Illness ****OBITUARY**** Elmer Roy Greer, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Greer, passed from this life January 4, 1918. His death occurred at a military hospital, Ft. Riley, Kansas, and was caused by pneumonia contracted at Camp Funston. He was born in Missouri, July 10, 1895 having reached the age of 22 years, 5 months, 24 days. He leaves to mourn his untimely departure a grief stricken father and mother, four brothers, two sisters, an aged grandmother and a multitude of other friends and relatives by whom he was held in high esteem. Elmer was a noble young man of clean habits and high ideals. Quiet, unassuming, kind and industrious were traits among his high qualities. At his country’s call he was in training camp for military service to defend our nation’s honor and thus gave his last full measure of devotion. His funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church, in Wagner, in the presence of a very large concourse of sorrowing friends. jywsd11
