Henry John Sweeney was the first Manchester serviceman to pay the ultimate price while serving his country during the great war (WW1) when he was mortally wounded in France on February 18,1918. Manchester American Legion Post 2 which bares his name will acknowledge the 99th anniversary of his sacrifice on Saturday February 18 with a ceremony at his monument in the park that also bares his name located a block South of Herman F Little Square (Granite Square) on the City;s West Side.
