Q: What kind of Legion presence is still in the city where the Legion began?
Paris Post 1, first chartered on Dec. 13, 1919, which lives in the city where the first caucus that led to the formation of the Legion was held in 1919.According to the post’s Centennial Celebration page: “Located in Paris, France, since 1919, with the only exception of World War II, Paris Post 1 continues to keep alive the memory of our fallen comrades who remain in hallowed grounds in the American Cemeteries throughout France. Every year we participate in ceremonies for The American Legion Birthday, Victory in Europe Day, Memorial Day, D-Day Invasion Remembrance, Independence Day, Liberation Day, Patriots Day and Armistice/Veterans Day.”News and photos from many of Post 1’s yearly remembrance activities can be found on the Foreign and Outlying Departments and Posts of The American Legion - or FODPAL - page of the national website.
