A: Since the program’s inception in 1925, 59 players from Yogi Berra to Ryne Sandberg, from Ted Williams to Greg Maddux, have gone from competing on Legion fields to having bronze plaques dedicated to them in the Hall of Fame and accompanying museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. This Moment's History

In a nice bit of symmetry, each June the George W. Rulon American Legion Player of the Year is invited to the Hall of Fame Classic game in Cooperstown, where he receives his award on Doubleday Field.
