On Thursday, September 5, 2019, Bruckenthal-Cann Memorial Post 385 Vice Commander George Koren accepted a proclamation from Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis making September 16, 2019, American Legion Centennial Day. This occurred at the Pembroke Pines City Center during the regular City Commission meeting. In attendance from the post were Post Adjutant Ted Pomerantz and Judge Advocate Joseph Motes. It should be noted that Vice Mayor Thomas Good Jr. is also a Post 385 member.
With the support of Mayor Ortis and the City Commission, veterans are well-served and honored in Pembroke Pines with annual events such as the Memorial Day ceremony, the Veterans Day ceremony, the Veterans’ Employment Job Expo at the Carl Shechter (WWII veteran) Southwest Focal Point Community Center and the Patriot Day Remembrance. There is also the Veterans Memorial Walkway Paver Project, and the Re-Energize and Re-Connect (R & R) Veterans Village. Pembroke Pines also supports Honor Flight.
Florida is well-known as a veterans state, but Pembroke Pines is a Legiontown, and our post is proud to call it home.
