Madelyn LaCanne Post 539 assumed sponsorship of the American Legion Juniors Baseball team after it was dropped by the Sullivan-Wallen Post 11 in Green Bay.

Post 539 consisted of 30 members as of this date. Through the efforts of selling tickets to the Bobcats vs. the Canadian-American Soo Indians hockey game and many spaghetti dinners the Ladies were able to supply the team with new uniforms and equipment.

Driven to keep the American Legion Juniors organization afloat, and thus preserve the city's only existing representation in inter-city baseball competition. Members of the Post had been given 1000 tickets to the Bobcat-Indian hockey game and a portion of the money would be used to support the ball team. Geraldine (Gerry) Drossart was the post commander during this venture.

In 1963 the Post recieved a Certificate of Appreciation from the National Headquarters for being the first all women's post to sponsor an American Legion Baseball team.

They also "fought" City Hall as they wanted to charge the American Legion team to pay for playing time on the ball fields. In other cities and counties in the Ninth District area, Legion teams were not charged for the same services.

After two wonderful years of their association with the American Legion Juniors Baseball team, Post 11 asked if they could once again resume their relationship with the team.
