While the community of Mattoon continued to try and reopen their elementary school with the help of Post #287, they asked the Post to lead in the first parade to be ever held in Mattoon for Christmas. Post #287 took the lead with over 26 to 32 floats following behind them. After the parade, the town had a celebration around the first huge Christmas put up by the closed Elementary School, giving out free hot chocolate.
