Reported in the Spirit of Jefferson Newspaper on May 16, 1945: Miss Dorothy E. Knott, of Bakerton, is the first lady member of Jackson-Perks Post 71 and she is also believed to be the first in the Tenth District, American Legion Department of West Virginia.
