Post News

Over this past year, the Post initiated action to help address a long-standing problem. Veterans who were sent to help clean up the atomic testing sites in the 1970s and 1980s are now facing many serious medical issues. However, the VA is not covering them for these issues. The Post prepared a resolution to make the VA address these issues. The Post membership adopted the resolution at the March 2017 membership meeting and forwarded to the Department. The Department then adopted the resolution at the Department convention in July 2017 and sent it to the American Legion National Headquarters. At the National Convention in Reno, Nevada in August 2017, it was adopted and now our National Headquarters will start working with the VA to make them address these veterans’ medical issues.

To those who attended the September membership steak night celebration, thank you and hope you had a great time. The steaks were excellent as usual, people seemed to have a fun time, and Commissioner Hutchings gave a tremendous keynote address. A special thanks to all the volunteers who help make the evening an enormous success.

The Post now has a website in addition to its Facebook page. Please check it out at:

General Veteran and VA News

If you receive your medical care (including prescriptions) through Madigan Army Medical Center, they are transitioning to a new electronic medical health record system on or about 21 October 2017. If you need to schedule an annual exam or regular check or need to fill or refill your prescription, Madigan is strongly advising to get them done before 21 October 2017. Madigan expects major, lengthy delays for several weeks afterwards as the new system is implemented.

Murphy’s Military Laws of the month

• Military intelligence is an oxymoron.
• Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.
• The important things are always simple, the simple are always hard.
• You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note.
• There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole.
