RE: Resolution: Tax Deductible Car Miles – IRS Standard Mileage Rates:

If you are using your car for qualified business, medical, or charitable purposes, you can deduct your vehicle expenses. For a vehicle you own or lease, you can deduct either the Actual Expenses or the Standard rate per mile driven. If the car is leased and you use the standards mileage rates, you must use the standard rates for the entire life of the lease. The standard tax deductible rates for 2013 are listed and are standard tax deductible IRS mileage rates that are optional and may be used for current 2013 tax returns when needed for your deduction if you keep a detailed records, such as a mileage log.

WHEREAS: The standard tax deductible IRS mileage rate for 2013 tax returns that were due 15 April 2013 are

WHEREAS: 55.5 cents per mile driven is given for business purposes. And

WHEREAS: 23 cents per mile for medical or moving purposes is given. and

WHEREAS: 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations is given.

WHEREAS: The American Legion is recognized as a Charitable Organization

WHEREAS: The American Legion is recognized as one of the largest charitable non profit Service organizations nationally and World wide and

WHEREAS: The American Legion is Congressionally Chartered and

WHEREAS: The American Legion is required to Congressionally report Consolidated reports to Congress and

WHEREAS: The American Legion Consolidated Reports come from Congressional sanction collectively reported from local American Legion Posts

And WHEREAS: Service Organization members are mostly on minimal income or/ and in Senior Age pay brackets.

Be it RESOLVED, by Dean Mendenhall Provo, Post no.13 The American Legion, Department of Utah in special meeting May 4th, 2013 assembled in Provo, Old Historic Courthouse, 51 South University, Provo Utah 84601, that The American Legion shall sponsor and support organizational and if further needed Legislative support to it’s Members to receive tax deductible status to business rather than Charitable tax deductions. Be it also RESOLVED, That The American Legion associate it self that being a Congressionally Chartered Organization, required to maintain such consolidated Reports for such Congressional Hearings, Documentary, Historical and consolidated Reporting be given exempt status of Charitable Service of 14 cents per mile to business status of 55.5 cents per mile.
