Post 54 established a roller skating rink

According to Houston County Archive receipts for roller skates and history obtained from American Legion Post member, Mr. Webb Mitchum, the post recognized the need for children activities in the area. The roller skating rink was built in the location of the old High School gym.

The Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of WWII Commemorative Community Program

As the Houston County Executive, Mr. George Clark collaborated with Mr. Joe Armstrong (Commissioner,Tennessee Dept. of Veterans Affairs) to enroll the city of Erin/Houston County in the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of WWII Commemorative Community program. This program honored WWII veterans on the 50th anniversary of the war. On November 7, 1995, the Stewart-Houston County Times reprinted a page from the 1944 Houston County Times "Incomplete" list of the WWII veterans who were living..
