On September 23, 1930, forty-two men from the Stewart County, Tennessee area met and completed the Application for Post of The American Legion. The Post would be named after Douglas Milford Lyons, a WWI Veteran who was killed in combat action in Verdun, France, 12 October 12, 1918 (Distinguished Service Cross Awarded for action-citation comments below). The application was signed by the Post Adjutant H.P. Andrews, from Dover, TN and forwarded through Legion Command channels..

Stewart County Blue Ribbon Sweet Tooth Challenge-Hosted By Dover Post 72 Saturday, October 17, Noon-4 pm First Church of Nazarene, 135 Donelson Parkway, Hwy 79 Dover Blue Ribbon contest of cakes, pies, candies, jellies, jam, and banana pudding. $5 Donation for Each Entry Submitted. Entry Forms will be available day of event. All entries can be submitted from Noon-1p.m. No late entries will be accepted. All Proceeds to benefit the Stewart County Good Samaritan Center..
