The original meeting place for the Arlington American Legion was perhaps held in the opera house. A regular meeting place was not constant: the city café, the old school house, and even homes became meeting areas. Then during the late 1920's or early 1930's The Nordland Luthersn Church building which was west of town was moved onto a lot on south Main street and served as post home for several years. This was followed by a move to the new auditorium in 1942 or 1943 in its upper rooms. In 1967 the purchase of the closed Arlington Theater was made. This became a monumental project for the membership but continues to be the post home to this time. Post #42 was renamed in 1947 to Edgar L. Herrick who was killed in action on a bombing mission over Rueland, Germany southeast of Dredland, Germany. He was member of the 350th Lawerence W. Riegel crew that was attacked by the German Air Force. Four of the crew members were killed by the attack while the others parachuted only to become POWs.
