The very first monument for veterans was placed at the Arlington Cemetery in the late 1940s; as it became more difficult to hold ceremonies at the cemetery, a new memorial was built at the Arlington Lake in 1987. In 2012 the 1987 Memorial was removed from Lake Arlington and a very impressive new memorial was built at the existing site. This site was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2013. Casket flags of the deceased Veterans were first placed at the Lake Arlington site in 1987. As many flags were added over the years, the first placed flags were retired to the Legion hall. There are currently approximately 150 casket flags flown on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and when weather permits, Veterans Day. All of these flags have come from those post Veterans who have died from our post.
