On September 16, 1920 the Stickney S.D. American Legion Post 26 was issued a Permanent Charter and renamed to the Dittrick American Legion Post 26 in honor of Leo Dittrick. Leo Dittrick, a Stickney, South Dakota native was killed in action in France during WW1

Post 26 Rechartered

May 1, 1946
On May 1, 1946 Dittrick American Legion Post 26 was renamed and rechartered as Dittrick-Barrows American Legion Post 26 in honor of Stickney native Lieutenant Dale A. Barrows. Navy Lieutenant Dale A. Barrows was shot down on March 19,1945 in Kobe Harbor, while flying with his unit, Bombing Squadron SIX, against enemy warships.

Stickney American Legion Post 26 was rechartered as Dittrick-barrows-Noldner in memory of Ronald Lee Noldner. Ronald Lee Noldner was born on June 25, 1947 in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Orville and Loretta (Leibrich) Noldner. His mother passed away in 1950, at which time he went to live with his grandparents, Carl and Madeline Noldner, on their farm near Stickney, South Dakota. His grandmother passed away in 1951 and his grandfather in 1956, at witch time..

World War II Commemorative Coin Presentation

     Edwin "Bud" Niewenhuis,96, Of Stickney was presented The South Dakota WW II commemorative coin by American Legion Post 26 Commander Tyler Gerlach at a reception in Bud's honor. Family and friends came together to thank Bud for his service.

     Bud noted that he served in the South Pacific, along side several million friends to get the job done. Bud still resides at home with his wife Mae and is out and about..

On Saturday, January 20, 2018 members of Dittrick,Barrows, Noldner Post 26 traveled to Bowdle,S.D. to present Dick Lien wit his 60 Year continuous membership certificate and the South Dakota WWII medalion. Dick and his wife Barbara were active Legion and Auxliary members for many years. 

Presenting his certificate were Commander Tyler Gerlach, Wilbur Hargraves, Lyle Bruinsma and Roger VandenOerver.

Vernon Jacobs recognized for 60 Years of Legion Membership

On Sunday, January 28, 2018 Vernon "Stub" Jacobs was presented with a 60 Year certificate and lapel pin for continuous membership in Dittrick,Barrows,Noldner American Legion Post 26 of Stickney. Vernon served in the Korean War and was the Sergeant at Arms for Postb 26 for many years. Vernon and his wife Connie reside in Mitchell,S.D..

Presenting Vernon with his certificate was Delayne Persson and Marion Hargens.

South Dakota District 6 Commander Doug Feltmen was on hand to present Stickney native Jim guenthner with the American Legion Certificate of Appreciation . For many years Jim has voluntarily provided bugler servics for Stickney area Veterans final rights and Post 26 events. Jim's father, Clifford Guenthner, was a Korean War Veteran and as such their family holds a high regard for all veterans.

Post 26 to host Legion Riders Highway 281 Centennial Run

Stickney S.D. Post 26 ha s accepted to provide a evening meal on Friday, August 2, 2019 for the Legion Riders Highway 281 Centennial Run. This ride will be accompainied by a National Vice Commander, and a Legion Riders National Commander. Plans are be prepared for a potluck meal at the Stickney Roadside Memorial and Park. Riders are scheduled to arrive at 4:30 pm and on the road again a 6:00pm.

Post 26 constructs new Post Home

Post 26 constructs new Post Home

After years of not having their own Post Home, Post Commander Tyler Gerlach headed up the effort to erect our own Post building. Commander Gerlach  believes that to help ensure the 100 Year History of Post 26 that a self owned building was necessary. Fundraising has been going on for several years and the proposal to solicit donations from post members to complete this project was determined.

The majority of this construction was to be done..
