The organization of a women’s auxiliary unit of the American Legion was consummated at the Lodge Hall on August 19, 1927. The Legion and Auxiliary Post was named Gingrich Post No. 13 in honor of Curvin A. Gingrich, the first service man from Wakonda to lose his life in World War I. At the close of WWII, the name Dixon was added to the name of the post in honor of Luverne F. Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dixon, the first service man from Wakonda to lose his life on the battlefield of that war. The name then became Gingrich-Dixon Post No. 13.
