Post Monserrate Padilla #47, Inc., Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico was founded on December 1929. Our founding fathers were all veterans of the First World War. Our first Commander was Dr. Ramon Ibern Fleytas. The following were the original members of our Post: Francisco Solano Montalvo, Virgilio Surita, Gabriel Rodriguez, Francisco Zapata, Jose Rodriguez Diaz, Enrique Ramirez, Cipriano C. In 1932, Monserrate Padilla lost his battle to illnesses caused by the affects of mustard gas. After the death of Monserrate Padilla, Post #47 named the Post in his honor. Information received from family members and fellow veterans is that Monserrate Padilla was one of the first members of the city of Cabo Rojo to enlist into the Army. PUESTO MONSERRATE PADILLA #47 LEGIONNAIRE IS ELECTED DEPARTMENT COMMANDER

On June 1, 2011 the Post was very proud to have one of our own elected as Department Commander 2011-2012. Ildefonso Colon Jr. won the election by a landslide, defeating his opponent 226 votes to 62 votes. He went unopposed for the year 2012-2013. As Commander, he strived to establish a relationship with the civilian community as well as the military community.
