Boy Scouts, Vietnam veteran complete cross-country bike ride in New York City in support of wounded veterans

Three Boy Scouts and a Vietnam War veteran will conclude a 59-day, 3,600-mile cross-country bike ride in New York City on Saturday, Aug. 15. Along the way, the Bike Trip America group (Boy Scouts Venturing Crew 225 of Astoria, Oregon) is raising funds for The American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program that provides assistance and comfort items to wounded, ill and homeless veterans and military personnel.
The Scouts surpassed the $10,000 fundraising goal earlier in the trip.
The ride concludes Aug. 15 when the bicyclists complete the last leg from Fishkill to New York City. The bike riders and members of the American Legion Family, including National Commander Mike Helm, Past National Commander Fang Wong of New York and National Executive Committeeman Charlie Schmidt of Oregon, will be available for media interviews in New York City that afternoon.
When: Saturday, Aug. 15, at approximately 3 p.m.
Where: The 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site.
Also, the cyclists will ride over to the Hudson River to dip their tires into the water, signaling the end of the trip. (Media that would like to take photos or video of that event should get in touch with one of the contacts listed below for details, as arrangements are still being made.)
