by Dwight Frady, Mount Holly News In impressive ceremonies on a hot, muggy day Saturday in Stanley that felt more like the 4th of July, a large crowd came to see the Veterans Memorial dedicated honoring all of the veterans from the Stanley-Alexis area who died for this country in world wars. Three honored for support of American Legion

The Rhyne-Cannon American Legion Post 266 in Stanley recognized three members who have achieved 70 continuous years each in the American Legion. They are: Robert Cloninger, Gordon Hacker and Ralph Mauney. Post Commander David Coffey presented framed certificates to each member, assisted by Bill Richard, National Executive Committeeman. The dinner was catered by Hillbilly's Barbeque of Lowell.
