1910

The Post is created

Aug 15, 1919
On August 15, 1919 the Post applied for its charter. The members selected Dr, Frank Overton as the first Commander. The members of the Post decided to name the Post after the village it is located in, thus Patchogue Post 269 was formed. Although there have been discussions over the years about changing the name of the Post, it remains Patchogue Post 269 in keeping with what the original members decided upon.

The Charter becomes permanent

The permanent Charter is issued to the Post.

Corner Stone is laid

Aug 1, 1924
In 1924, the corner stone for the Post building was laid. The members of the Post decided to have the building erected in the Veterans Memorial Park in Patchogue. The Village of Patchogue agreed with this. Although there have been minor changes to the building over the 90 plus years of its existence, the basic shape and structure have endured. Today, the building continues to be home to Patchogue Post 269.

Veterans Memorial Park Changes Names

Veterans Memorial Park Changes Names

Patchogue Post 269 sits in the Veterans Memorial Park. After discussions with the Mayor of Patchogue, it was jointly decided to rename the park after a 72 year member of the Post. Harry T. Hanson served during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He joined the SONS organization prior to joining the Legion when he enlisted during WWII. Harry served as Commander of Post 269 three times.
