In 1917 Lieut. Charles A. Meyer left Newton as the leader of a large contingent for Camp Dix. He was among the early Sussex County contingent to go overseas. Assigned to CO K. 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division sent to the front and had been in the midst of the fighting on the American sector in France. Lieut. Charles A.
