Past History of Post 311 Buidling; The present building known as Post 311, was organically a private residence that was turned over to the newly chartered American Legion Post 311, in 1945. Since that time, the post has served as a focal point for Waterford Township. Various community organizations used the building for meetings, special events etc. promoting Americanism. The building has gone through several interior renovations over years, to include; bar relocations, new bathroom..
From Dec 16,1944 - Jan. 1945 this battle is considered the most lethal American battles, by estimated number of Americans killed ( 19,276) where Army Veteran Valenti served as a Sergeant Major in the 106th Division. He was awarded the Broanze Star and Purple Heart for his bravery.
Local resident of Waterford Township was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany during WWll. Like many young men from the area, Frank Sr. was drafted and sent overseas, leaving behind family and friends.

Life long resident and WWll veteran Sam Valenti takes charge of local American Legin Post 311.
Based on interest and desire to organize a Sons of American Legion Unit, a group of individuals found the time and sufficient number of qualified individulas to charter a new squadron in Waterford Township. The addition to the already exisiting family of Legionaires and Ladies Auxillary was a great addition. Throughout the years, the squadron has participated in many community related events, fostering Americanism.
A great communnity event, wherein various organizations participate. Post 311 Colour Guard leading the parade. This is a opportunity to bring out the residents and enjoy various food vendors, craft exhibits and games for the township youth.
John is a life long resident of Waterford Township and a US Navy Veteran. Having served during the Cuban Crisis and later joined the Merhant Marines. Active member of Post 311 John was both a Sr. Vice Commander and Commander of Post 311.
March 29th marks the second annual Vietnam Veternans Day. President Trump created it in 2017 as a day to show honor and respect for the nations's Vietnam War veterans. The law encourages dispay of the US flag to commemorate the service of Vietnam War veterans.
Post 311 was invited to present the story surrounding the meaning and historical signifigance of the 4 Chaplains Event.
