Pvt Henry J. Sweeney Co.B, 103rd Infantry, 26th Division, KIA at Chemin-des-Dames, France on 18FEB1918. This young soldier was the first Manchester man to be killed in action during World War I.

      The Department of NH held the first meeting of the American Legion  War Veterans on the fifth{5} of May in the Year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Nineteen{1919}, at the first New Hampshire State Armory located at 60 Pleasant St in Manchester.  There was twenty-seven Veteran's from the Queen City, along with many..

James Heron

James Heron was commander of the post during 1950.  Known as “Casey”, he was very active in many post’s activities which included Finance (Finance Officer), Baseball and Golf committees.  Also he retired from U.S. Postal Office which he worked for many years.

Former Commander Madden (1996) is known in helping start the “Drum and Bugle Corp” in the late 40s and 50s.  The Corp played in Local and National competitions.  Also, he was the District Commander.  Sharkey is well known throught out the city of Manchester.

George Smith was the commander for the Post during 2002.  He served the Post as the Athletic director for thirty years.  His leadership helped shape the Baseball activities as of today (2018).  Also he served as Alderman for the city of Manchester.

William Whitmore

Bill Whitmore served twice as commander for Sweeney Post (2010 and 2014).  Also, he was involved in recruitment for young veterans and encourage the older veterans to do recruitment for Sweeney Post.  Unfortunately, he was the first command to pass away while serving in office as Commander.
