Ralph Greer Post 49 was organized on October 10, 1919 and a permanent charter issued in February 1921. The Post was named after Ralph Greer, who was the first soldier killed in action during World War I from Rock Port, Missouri.

Post 49 has provided great support to Rock Port as well as to Missouri and the nation. The membership helps provide military funeral honors to veterans who have answered the final call; participates in parades and other patriotic civic events; sponsors students to State Government Day in Jefferson City and helps host County Government Day to educate students in how their county and state governments function. The Post also provides a scholarship for a senior graduating Rock Port High School and helps to raise money for a special fund to upkeep the Atchison County Memorial Building. Post 49 also was part of a dedication ceremony for a grave marker for COMSY SGT Ambrose Porter of Company D, 12th Missouri Calvary, whose heroic actions during the American Civil War resulted in him being the only person from Atchison County to receive The Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military honor.
