The last Charter Member of Pony Express Post 359, LIFE Member Everett L. Johnson, died on August 8, 2014. He was 91 years old.

Legionnaire Johnson was one of 22 individuals who formed Pony Express Post 359 on September 19, 1945. The Post was issued a permanent charter on January 16, 1946. He was the first person to serve as Post Adjutant for Post 359. He marked 70 continuous years of membership in The American Legion this year (2014 - 2015).

Legionnaire Johnson earned his Legion membership through his service in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member the 1st Battalion of Darby’s Rangers which received two Presidential Unit Commendations. After being wounded in combat, Legionnaire Johnson became an Army photographer. He also sold war bonds and helped recruit WACs.

Legionnaire Johnson was also an Honored Lifetime Member of the Orchid Society of Greater Kansas City and an accredited judge of the American Orchid Society.
