American Legion Pony Express Post 359 hosted an Armed Forces Community Covenant ceremony on Armed Forces Day (May 15) 2010.

The Army created the Community Covenant program in April 2008 to give communities across the country a unique way to honor service members and their families. The program encourages governors, county commissioners, mayors and other community leaders to sign official declarations acknowledging the sacrifices of local service members. Though Community Covenant started as an Army-specific program, it has been expanded to honor the sacrifices of all military families.
Once each covenant is signed, it is usually displayed in a prominent location, such as city hall, the state capitol or nearby military installations.

Attending officials and signatories to the covenant were Dalton Wright, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army; Brig. Gen. Stephen D. Cotter, Assistant Adjutant, Missouri Air National Guard; Mayor Bill Falkner of Saint Joseph, Missouri; Commander Dennis Brown of Pony Express Post 359; President Marta Barnes, Pony Express Auxiliary Unit 359; and Commander Jerome Goolsby, Pony Express Squadron 359.
