Pony Express Post 359 presented Blue Star Service Banners to families of the 139th Airlift Wing at Rosecrans ANGB, Saint Joseph, Missouri, at a special picnic held May 11, 2002 by the wing's family support group.

The Blue Star Banner Service Program was started during World War I and was again utilized during World War II. The banner, created in 1917, was hung in the window of a home to denote that a family member was serving in the military.

"We of The American Legion have served during times of war and know well the hardships that brings to a family," Post Commander Bill Richards said. "These banners are to give recognition to families who are making a important sacrifice to protect our way of life."
