The family of Dr. Hal Baumgarten established a Commemoration Endowment specifically tied to the WW II Museum annual D-Day Commemoration to ensure that generations to come will understand the history, importance and lasting impact of D-Day.

Consulate General a la Nouvelle- Orleans, Gergor Trumel to present the Legion d'Honneur (Legion of Honor) to four veterans who were either in the D-Day invasion of France or who fought in France in WW II.

 

. Receiving the Legion of Honor Private First Class Roy J Boyter: Co e, 115th Infantry, 2nd Bn. 29th Division. Landed Omaha Beach, wounded 06/10/44, captured, POW for 4 months and freed by advancing American Forces. Currently resides in Shreveport, La.

 

Tech Sgt. Burnia Martin, with French Counsel Gregor Trumel and WW II Museum President Nick Mueller receives his Legion of Honor. Served with the 547th Bomb Squadron, 384th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. Shot down over France on 09/16/43, POW in Stalag 17B Krems Austria till liberation on May 3, 1945. Mr. Martin was born in Bogalusa La and currently resides

 

Staff Sgt. George E Mclean: 329 Bomb Squadron, 409 Bomb Sw. 93rd Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. Mr. Mclean was an Aerial Gunner during missions over Europe. Born in New Orleans and currently resides in Metairie, La.

 

Pvt. First Class James M. Weller. Battery "C" 231st Armored Field Artillery Bn. Landed on Omaha Beach in support of 16th Infantry Regiment. He was a tank mechanic and driver of M-7 Priest Vehicles. Born in New Orleans La. and currently living in Metairie, La.

 

As is the tradition, French Counsel Gregor Trumel along with Bill Detweiler give a Toast to the WW II Veterans with of course some Fine French Wine.
