The float USS Illinois was created by Post 654 member Paul Eakle. It was a recreation of the ship that had brought him home from WWI. He and his "crew", made up of fellow legionaires and family went to many parades around the state and country. It went to National conventions in San Francisco and New York. When in the days before interstate highways, was a feat in itself.
