What Makes this Post Unique
The Post Meets at Brevard Veterans Memorial Center on Merritt Island. HISTORY: During the Post Vietnam Era, Post 344 was formed by Christopher R. Sietz. The post noted as a Vietnam Era Veterans Memorial Post 344, Merritt Island, Florida. At first, the post had no home and was moved back and forth from Rockledge, Florida several times. When the Veterans Memorial Center was built, early 1980's, Post 344 found a home. Post 344 Legionnaire Robert C. Kiser became the Post Commander. In the following years, John D. Howard provided valuable guidance for the post to become a resident of the Veterans Memorial. John Howard was the Post Adjutant for years until 2000, providing a successful path to the Post's prominent position of District 12, American Legion, Florida. During the years from 2000 to 2008, Forest Gilder, Post Commander and John P. O'Connor as Post adjutant served the Post with distinction. From 2009-10, David D. Brand served as Post Commander. From 2011-2014, Robert W. Doyle served as Post Commander. Presently, Ken Hill is the Post Commander. From the years of 2000 until present, Post 344 has obtained a 100% plus membership and has received honor post ribbons since 2011 for District 12.
