Commissioned on 12/31/43 the USS CASSIN YOUNG DD793 was in honor of the late Captain Cassin Young K.I.A. in the Solomon Islands. The ship was involved in many WWII operations in the Pacific theatre including but not limited to escort for the baby flat tops. Between October 23rd, and October 27th 1944 The ship was the recipient of many large scale Japanese attacks in the battle for Leyte Gulf where she rescued 120 men from carrier Princeton when it was sunk on October 24th
