Our honored WWII veteran JOHN KENNETH WICKHAM WW1 and WWII served aboard the USS Buchanan as a Torpedoman 1st. Wickham was the recipient of numerous awards including the Purple Heart issued November 12th 1942 for injuries sustained in the South Pacific. The award was given by Admiral W.F. Halsey.

Just some of the outstanding achievements accomplished by the USS BUCHANAN (DD-484) were the participation in 13 major engagements resulting in the sinking of 2 Cruisers, 2 Destroyers, 2 Submarines, 2 Freighters, 5 planes shot down,and 18 shore batteries silenced.

Wickham was a member of our post #267 for 52 yrs until his demise at the age of 100. His remains are now in Arlington National Cemetery. Attached URL explains the history of the USS Buchanan.
