What Makes this Post Unique

Post 163 located on US 1 started as a small building in 1946. In the 1960's the building was expanded to it's current size. Post 163 is active with the Eau Galle High School JROTC program. A member of post 163 and a WWII POW, Tommy Paecheckia, who is 96 years young has a $1000.00 scholarship fund named after him and is awarded to a cadet of either Melbourne High School or Eau Galle High School each year in Brevard County. On November 1, 2016 ost 163 ushered in a new era by becoming non-smoking. Construction of a smoking area outside began in 2017 and is ongoing.

J.W. Mathers Jr.was one of the first men from the Eau Gallie Florida area killed in WWII. He was a Private First Class(PFC}born Dec. 12, 1919 and passed December 1944. He was wounded and captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He died in a prison hospital. Survived by his father Joseph W. Mathers 1894 - 1966. His mother Eula Mathers 1900 - 1972.
